Hello! My name is Diana Joy. A 25-year-old young lady currently holding a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and pursuing a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Portsmouth, England. I am also a model, currently holding two titles: Miss Earth Kenya Water 2021 and Miss Tourism International Kenya 2022/2023. I am also a Presidential fellow representing Nairobi County under Global Peace Foundation and a deputy director at Africa World Model United Nations.
Over the years, playing a part in the judicial system in Kenya as well as a beauty Queen I have come across a subject at hand that I feel needs to be addressed and catered to, and being the person who spearheads this subject would not only be an honor but a healing component to myself and the numerous survivors involved. I would like to venture into mental health in the case of Gender Based Violence survivors. As a survivor myself. I feel the need to show the rest of the world that I can still thrive and so can they. Kenyans are known for their “Umoja”, their togetherness, therefore, I believe this project will not only create an inclusive culture for survivors and Kenyans at large but will also raise awareness of GBV and mental health.
Kenya is known for its beautiful sceneries, the big five, and its rich culture, but did you also know that Kenya is also known as the cradle of Humanity? However you see to interpret this logic, I feel that Kenya’s Humanity lies within the hospitality and generosity of its people. Mental health and GBV are serious matters around the globe that are affecting the young and the old without people even realizing it and its eating away at our future, but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and I would like to begin at home, and home is where my people are, be it in Kenya or abroad. It’s time to improve on our humanity as Kenyans and there’s no better way to do so than to have an ambassador such as myself on the forefront, ready to lead my countrymen to global peace and a better Kenya for even greater Kenyans.
Thank you!
