Jambo! I’m Ruth Wanjiku, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity, to introduce myself to you. We don’t know each other, but we already have something in common - we love KENYA! and like you, I do what I can to champion projects that promote our beloved country.
I graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MSc in Development Management specialising in Public Economic Management and Finance. I am delighted to be active in the continued development of Kenya and have recently had the opportunity in my role of Fundraising Coordinator to visit rural farmers and promote peer to peer sustainable farming projects which has been implemented to empower the most disadvantaged and marginalised communities. I have recently returned from my second monitoring visit to assess the progress of the farmers who are committed to building their businesses and improving their incomes. I am overwhelmed by the farmers’ tenacity which spurs me on to work harder in partnership with them in such a challenging industry.
Asides from my passion for International Development, AbleChildAfrica UK is close to my heart. It’s a non- profit which supports disabled children in East Africa and in conjunction with Action Network for the Disabled (ANDY) in Kenya, they are running an exciting sports projects for disabled children across Nairobi and Kiambu counties. As you may be aware many disabled children live in isolation from their peers due to exclusion from mainstream schools, unable to cope with their needs. As with many marginalised groups this renders them invisible and helps formulate negative stereotypes and fear of the unknown. This amazing sports initiative allows dis/able bodied children to play together thus eradicating social stigmas and supporting families with education and health matters resulting in the whole family benefiting and improving their life chances.
