My name is Melissa Ida Petty, I am a 20-year-old born and raised in England to a Kenyan mother. I am currently a third year LLB Law student at the University of Hull. I aspire to be a family solicitor and a human rights activist. My hobbies and interests include travelling, vlogging, photography and competing in ballroom and latin dancing. I also have a passion for volunteering, and helping those in need. I first visited Kenya when I was 18 months old and continued to visit after yearly. I love Kenya, the people, the culture. I am so proud about my Kenyan culture and heritage, my numerous visits to Kenya has enriched my culture. I have enjoyed the great hospitality of people, and the rich culture of the country. It is my pleasure to represent the country I love so much, and I aspire to be a great ambassador of Kenya’s diaspora globally. My chosen charity is Mama Melissa Foundation which I have participated in various fundraising activities in from the age of 10, I am now currently a trustee. Mama Melissa Foundation is a fundraising body for Mbeere Community Education Development Project. Mama Melissa Foundation support disadvantaged young girls in the Mbeere south district, by paying school fees, to have access to secondary education by empowering young scholars to finish school, leverage their education into viable opportunities for earned income and have the tools to self-advocate for their own life choices. As my Cucu says, ‘If you educate a girl, you educate a family’. In recent years Mama Melissa Foundation has included in its objectives to spread breast cancer awareness in rural Kenya.
