MY JOURNEY ON FACE OF KENYA UK

6/25/2014

I am a fun and loving person. I do have a very shy nature, especially in large groups of people. But I get on well easily with most people and warm to people very quickly. Living in London since I was 2 has helped build my confidence which is one of the reasons why I entered this competition.

I have not met many Kenyans living in London and especially living in the south east of London. So meeting all the girls has been lovely and so many coming from all across the country. It was also a chance to make friends and I did actually find out some of the girls have been to the same family parties as me.

I found fundraising the most difficult part of my journey with my exams only finishing on the Wednesday. Although I raised as much as I could and will continue as my cousin is the head of the charity I am fundraising for.

I am glad I joined this event as it is not only a beauty pageant but we are ambassadors of Kenya not just through beauty but through intelligence also.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
IMPACT YOUTH TRUST
Hello Janet,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during the 2014 Face of Kenya 2014. Ms. Jackline Edwards sent us £200 that will go towards the implementation of the Hype Choir Arts project that targets musically talented high school students from low income areas of Nairobi. We believe that talents need to be incorporated in youth development and as a means of generating a sustainable income.

The money will go towards renting a space and hiring equipment that will be used for the first auditions of the participants of the hype choir. The event will be held on the 16th of August 2014 and will subsequently be carried out semi-annually so as to get the best suited students for the program. We are partnering with Penya academy which is a well established music school in Kenya to generate a holistic curriculum that will provide both musical and individual mentorship for the participants. We are initially targetting schools within Mathare, Starehe adn Kamukunji sub county and will expand the project county wide before the end of the year.

We look forward forward to partnering with you and working towards empowering the youth of Kenya. Please contact me for further inquiry.

Regards,

Nyokabi Njuguna,

Executive Director,
Impacting Youth Trust.

I love helping others achieve their goals and pushing them towards their potential. It betters me and feeds the love I have for seeing others achieve their purposes in life, purposes they didn’t even know they could achieve. I believe this is a gift from God that I treasure and thank him for
every day.

I am an outgoing person who strives for success in the best way that I can. I am
extremely proud of my Kenyan heritage particularly since I was originally born
there. Every time I go back to visit my homeland; I fall in love all over again.
It is not just the country itself; it’s the setting, the fascinating culture,
the natural beauty and the gratitude of those who have very little.
