My name is Eva Marie Kendi. I am 23 years old. I attended Loreto Convent Msongari up to year 7 then moved to the UK when I was 13 in 2014. This was a massive change but I took it as an opportunity to learn and experience. I have remained in touch with my community and I support young/teenage girls to remain in education by emphasising the importance of education and raising awareness of teenage pregnancies which remains a major barrier to education.
Personally, I had a very challenging childhood and teenage but was being surrounded by very supportive people. I went to Anglia Ruskin University based in Cambridge, UK. I graduated from the university with an upper-second class Honours in Sociology.
I would like to inspire people like myself hence, my involvement with TEEM initiative.
I am interested in media as I enjoy being creative and use it as form of expression. I would also like to utilize this as a way of helping others. I sing and love to dance.
I am patriotic about my country Kenya and I have remained grounded to my roots. I visit Kenya yearly and although I spend most of my time with family , I also commit some of my time interacting with others and helping the least fortunate In my community.
The Project – Teenage Girls Empowerment Foundation (TEEM)
TEEM Foundation aims at stopping sexual exploitation, unplanned teen pregnancies and to keep girls and young people in education. Our initiative and direct practice looks to complete meaningful direct work with teen girls by carrying out mutual aid group work, age appropriate life skill training, parenting workshops as well as challenging systems that are failing young girls.
