My name is Elizabeth Mungai and I’m 23 years old. As a born and bred Kenyan, I love Kenya and the rich history of the vibrant country. I have always been proud of my Kenyan routes and I am passionate about the rich cultures and natural beauty of my home country. I especially adore Mombasa to the bustling city of Nairobi and even the small details such as the bumpy village roads. My recent visit to Kenya made me realise how much Kenya has progressed and is constantly expanding to its growth and development, especially the Diaspora investments where groups of individuals are contributing to the improvement of Kenya. This helps to increase its resources which makes me feel so proud to even be associated with such an amazing and beautiful country. I always have a sense of fulfilment and love when I think of my home country and its uniqueness. Kenya is really like no other and I feel such joy to have encompassed its culture and heritage within my life and future. I’m an ambitious individual and I have a passion for making a difference and helping others. I strive to make a positive difference to the lives of others and assist them to empower themselves which is why I plan to study Positive Psychology and Coaching for my Masters. I I love seeing people from diverse backgrounds connecting therefore during my time at university; I met many international students who came from Kenya to study within the UK. Like most international students settling in, is not always easy which is why I decided I wanted to start a Kenyan society to help ease them into UK culture and studying abroad. This way there would always be a support network available to them if they were struggling or required support or even if they wanted to communicate with people from their own background. I made this society with the idea ‘home away from home’ so a person never truly felt alone. I feel it is a real blessing that Face of Kenya UK is giving Kenyans a platform to become a Kenyan Ambassador here within the UK. i appreciate FOK even more especially because such oppotunities were never availble for our parents. It excites me to know I can have the opportunity to give other young women and men hope and motivate them to become who they really are. I have lived in the UK since I was 6 years old so I can appreciate and have come to enjoy UK culture. Although the UK is a part of me, Kenya will always be where my heart is. It is home. It is me.
