Annie Pover, is a Qualified Social Worker working in Jersey in the Channel Islands.
She works for the States of Jersey  working  supporting the most vulnerable children and families in the community in the most challenging circumstances.

Annie is a humanitarian at her core.  Since 2009, Annie has engaged in voluntary work in different countries such as Bulgaria, Philippines and Kenya. Her role involved doing voluntary work in children’s home, providing training to the youth on non-violent communication and supporting them financially.

In 2015, she donated £2000 to Thirime Women Self Help Group in Kenya and this enabled them to start a pig farming business. The women had a farm and she used this resource to transform their lives by this micro enterprise scheme. She has also supported street children to leave the hazardous life into mainstream education.

In February 2016, she arranged an alumni event at her former school, the first in over 50 years. She arranged fundraising from alumni globally and raised Kshs. 192,700, about £1,600.00 for the school and also inspired one of the alumni to donate 10 computers to the school. She visited the school to inspire current students and alumni. This was 30 years after leaving the said school.

In August 2016, she travelled to Uganda to support a charity pageant and whilst there, she was able to visit a children’s home and donate some clothes to them.

Whilst working in Guernsey, Annie  identified that there was a need for a project for ethnic minorities and together with another agency, they were able to set the project, and this  gave the ethnic minorities an opportunity to meet and interact with people from their own culture.

Annie has been involved in arranging re-unions in Germany and Kenya  for Kenyan women living in Diaspora. This has given the women an opportunity to meet and interact with other women, and some of them have ended having a good support network.
